The Basics of Mental Movement Therapy
Mental Movement Therapy (MMT) is the program of audio sessions that we developed to guide you through your practice of mental movements. This program was designed by physical therapists, with the input and collaboration of occupational therapists and physicians. We used their combined knowledge and experience to organize each practice session in a coherent and efficient way that would optimize your brain’s ability to improve your movement. Things such as the specific words used to cue your thoughts, the order of the guided movements, the length of the practice sessions and the type of background music (or absence of music in certain parts), were based on current motor learning principles. (in other words, the brain’s ability to learn and improve movement) And the exercises were chosen to incorporate the most effective neurological rehab methods possible (such as Neuro-Developmental Treatment and Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation). However, since using those methods can be even more complicated than pronouncing them, we kept our program simple enough for anybody to use, yet complete enough to be effective.
Why Mental Movement Therapy Works?
The reason being guided through your Getting Started With Mental Movement Theraphy practice is more efficient than trying to simply practice on your own is similar to the reason that people who exercise with a personal trainer usually feel more motivated and see better results than when exercising alone. Using our program is almost like having a physical therapist or a personal trainer right there with you, telling you in which part of your arm you should feel this movement, and where to concentrate your effort next. All of the sessions are broken down into concise parts to make mental practice of these movements as simple and effective as possible.
“MMT” Is Therapist Friendly
It can be used in conjunction with the physical or occupational therapy you might be receiving. Or if you are not receiving any professional rehab services, this program would be a perfect way for you to improve your function on your own.
