How To Use With Patients
Research has shown that the benefits of combining mental and physical practice outweigh the benefits of either component alone. We believe that our Mental Movement Therapy audio program is perfect for an independent home exercise plan, and it could also be incorporated into a comprehensive rehab program in the clinic or rehab facility.
In the clinic, it might be a good idea to have your patient participate in the Mental Movement Therapy individually, and then spend some time assisting them in physical practice of the same, or very similar movements. Please research the laws and insurance regulations in your area before deciding on whether to bill for the time your patients spend on this program in the clinic. We take no responsibility for any unethical or illegal billing practices. We also do not claim to be providing treatment with our program, but simply providing a tool that could be used by qualified clinicians in treatment (much like an elastic tubing or an electrical stimulation device is a tool that can be used for treatment).
Much of the research on mental practice has used sessions of about 30 minutes or more. However, in the development of this program, we found that it was very difficult for our patients to maintain their focus for that long. Because focused attention is a critical component to the success of this treatment, we decided to make each of our Mental Movement therapy sessions around 10 to 15 minutes in length. We found this to be a much more manageable time period, and it allows the patient to increase the length of the session as his/her ability to concentrate improves (either by repeating the session several times daily, or by pausing the audio during the short period of independent mental practice that is involved in each mental movement session).
Probably the simplest way to use this with your patients is to order the entire program on CD. Or you can download the content, and convert to a CD or listening device yourself. But remember, all of this content is copyrighted and not available for redistribution or re-sale.
